Pick one option from each step and the result appears here.

This site helps you choose a doctor. Being sick right now and needing care today is a different decision, and it is covered at KeyWestHealthcare.com.
For a child: a fever of 100.4 F or higher in a baby under 3 months is an emergency, even with no other symptoms.
For right-now care decisions, see where to go right now at KeyWestHealthcare.com. On the island:
For emergencies call 911 or go to the Lower Keys Medical Center emergency department.
Six starting points cover most searches. Every guide answers the same practical questions: who actually sees this problem on the island, how fast you can realistically be seen, what to ask when you call, and what happens when the answer is a trip up the Keys.
Getting a doctor of your own on the island.
Membership medicine, explained without the sales pitch.
The three same-day routes that actually work here.
What is on the island, and what means Marathon or Miami.
Paying cash without surprises.
The establish-care checklist for new and seasonal residents.
Directories rot fast on an island. This one stays small on purpose, and every entry has to earn its place.
Verification here means a person checked that the number and address are current against the practice's own site or a public license directory, and phone-verified entries mean someone actually called. Entries we have not yet reached by phone say exactly that on the card, so you always know which kind of listing you are reading. When a practice closes or moves, it comes off the list rather than lingering as a wrong number.
Key West counted 26,444 residents at the 2020 census (U.S. Census Bureau), a small city at the far end of the Overseas Highway. A town that size supports exactly one hospital and a short roster of physicians. Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island provides the island's full-service acute care and its 24-hour emergency department. Almost everything else, from family medicine to cardiology, happens in a handful of offices clustered around 12th Street, Kennedy Drive, and North Roosevelt Boulevard. Some specialties hold hours here only part of the week, and a few are not on the island at all, which is why locals talk about appointments up the Keys in Marathon or on the mainland in Miami.
The calendar matters more here than in most towns. Monroe County Tourist Development Council visitor studies put the island's busiest stretch between December and April, when winter residents return and occupancy peaks. The same season packs medical schedules. A practice with open slots in September may book out weeks ahead in January, and specialty clinic days fill first. Telehealth softens some of the squeeze; several island practices advertise video visits, and the telehealth guide covers when a video visit is the faster route. Seasonal residents do themselves a real favor by establishing care in the fall, before the season starts.
None of this makes the island hard to navigate once you learn the one local skill: call ahead, every time. Same-day or next-day appointments may be available. Availability changes, please call ahead to confirm. A two-minute call tells you whether a practice is taking new patients, what a visit costs without insurance, and whether the doctor you want holds hours this week. If cost is the worry, ask for the self-pay price before you book; the self-pay guide explains what to ask so the quote you get is complete. The guides on this site script those calls for you, so you know exactly what to ask before you dial.
This guide helps you choose the right doctor for the weeks ahead, not the right building for the next hour. If you are sick or hurt right now and need care today, see where to go right now in Key West at KeyWestHealthcare.com.
